Meet our Insiders:
Loupe Chairman
Mark Adlestone
Meet Mark, a third-generation family jeweller, certified GA gemmologist, and driving force behind Loupe's future of luxury. With a passion for enriching lives and making a positive impact on the world, trust us when we say, he’s got a heart of gold.
So, Mark, can you tell us about your journey to become Loupe's chairman?
"Well, my journey in the industry has been interesting. I've been involved in the Beaverbrooks Group now for 45 years, a family-run jewellers with over 100 years of heritage, and I've seen so many changes along the way within the industry and within our business, which has been a pleasure to be a part of. I think Loupe launching in 2022 is the greatest and most recent iteration of that change, and I couldn’t be prouder to be Chairman."
Can you tell us about the Beaverbrooks Group and how Loupe fits into this?
"So, the Beaverbrooks Group first began over 100 years ago, when Beaverbrooks was founded by my grandfather and his two brothers in Belfast in 1919. We're very proud to say we’re still a family business to this day, with myself as third generation and my daughter, Chloe (Loupe’s diamond and jewellery buyer), as fourth generation. In recent years, we decided that we wanted to bring something totally new to the market – a super luxurious and delightful experience with carefully curated collections, and that’s where Loupe comes in."
What brings you joy?
"Music, sport, and family. I have three daughters and three grandchildren. I love them dearly, and equally I love handing them back!"
What values or principles have contributed to the making of Loupe?
"Several core values and principles have contributed to the making of Loupe. Our purpose is enriching lives and I often talk about what that actually means – it’s about enriching the lives of our colleagues who work with us, our clients and the experiences that they have, the relationships that we build with our suppliers and the way we treat them. And very importantly, our communities and the charities that we support, which are so important and so integral to everything that we do, and that commitment to enriching lives underpins everything we do within Loupe and the Beaverbrooks Group."
What was the proudest moment of your career?
"The proudest moment of my career was receiving the OBE from Her Majesty the Queen in October 2015 for charity and for business. I’m particularly proud because engaging in philanthropy is so important to me, on a personal level but also as a business. The fact that I, and therefore the company, was recognised with such a prestigious award is a feeling I can’t describe."
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
"Well, the best piece of advice I've been given is 'happy wife, happy life'."
